He is the protector of all humanity from the ‘snares of the devil’. Gabriel (Strength of God) announced to Zachariah the forthcoming birth of John the Baptist\, and to Mary\, the birth of Jesus. His greeting to the Virgin\, “Hail\, full of grace\,” is one of the most familiar and frequent prayers of our Catholic faith. Raphael (Medicine of God) is the archangel who took care of Tobias on his journey. \n\nSaint Michael is the patron saint of grocers\, soldiers\, doctors\, mariners\, first responders\, and police. He is the Catholic Church’s patron saint of animals and the environment.\nIn honor of Saint Francis of Assisi\, the blessing of animals shows that all of God’s creatures are cherished and beloved. A blessing of pets is held around the Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi\, where anyone can bring their animal companions to church (dogs\, cats\, birds\, any animal creature) to receive a blessing and celebrate the special bond between humans and animals. \nOur annual Noah’s Ark Pet Blessing is usually held on the Sunday nearest to Saint Francis’ Feast Day. We try to have several vendors with information and services available for your pet\, and pets for adoption during this event. Leading up to the pet blessing\, our Noah’s Ark Ministry will have animal cages at the entrance of the Church for donation of pet food or gently used blankets and towels to the local animal shelter.\nThe Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi provides an opportunity to teach children about endangered or abused animals and what we can do to help. Eventually\, Pope Gregory XIII changed the name of the Feast to Our Lady of the Rosary to emphasize the power of Mary’s intercession in times of trouble. \nDuring October\, which is “month of the Rosary\,” our Legion of Mary will have a table at the entrances of the Church with free Rosaries and information on how to pray the Rosary.
