Lord, Hear Our Prayers

We asked our Parish Staff to share with us some of their favorite, most timeless prayers. Or prayers that they have felt helpful during this time. We welcome you to spend time talking to God. Whether reciting prayers, or speaking directly to Him, may you know the peace of the Lord.

Timeless Prayers

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle,
be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou,
O Prince of the Heavenly host,
by the power of God,
cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.

Angel of God
My guardian dear
To Whom God’s love
Commits me here
Ever this day
Be at my side
To light and guard
To rule and guide. Amen

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,Christ in the ear that hears me. Amen.

Eternal, Holy God,
I come to you burdened with worries,
fears, doubts, and troubles.
Calm and quiet me with peace of mind.
Empty me of the anxiety that disturbs me,
of the concerns that weary my spirit,
and weigh heavy on my heart.
Loosen my grip on the disappointments and grievances
I hold on to so tightly.
Release me from the pain of past hurts,
of present anger and tension, of future fears.
Sometimes it’s too much for me Lord,
too many demands and problems,
too much sadness, suffering, and stress.
Renew me spiritually and emotionally.
Give me new strength, hope, and confidence.
Prepare me to meet the constant struggles of daily life
with a deeper faith and trust in You.
Let your love set me free, for peace,
for joy, for grace, for life, for others, forever. Amen.

1. Begin with the Sign of the Cross, 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary and The Apostles Creed.

2. Then on the Our Father Beads say the following:
Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

3. On the 10 Hail Mary Beads say the following:
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

(Repeat step 2 and 3 for all five decades).

4. Conclude with (three times):
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

In 1933, God gave Sister Faustina a striking vision of His Mercy, 
Sister tells us:

‘I saw a great light, with God the Father in the midst of it. 
Between this light and the earth I saw Jesus nailed to the Cross 
and in such a way that God, wanting to look upon the earth, had to 
look through Our Lord’s wounds and I understood that God blessed 
the earth for the sake of Jesus. ‘

Of another vision on Sept. 13, 1935, she writes:

‘I saw an Angel, the executor of God’s wrath… about to strike 
the earth… I began to beg God earnestly for the world with words 
which I heard interiorly. As I prayed in this way, I saw the 
Angel’s helplessness, and he could not carry out the just 
punishment… . ‘

The following day an inner voice taught her to say this prayer on 
ordinary rosary beads:

‘First say one ‘Our Father’, ‘Hail Mary’, and ‘I believe’. Then on 
the large beads say the following words:

‘Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity 
of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement 
for our sins and those of the whole world. ‘

On the smaller beads you are to say the following words:

‘For the sake of His sorrowful Passion have mercy on us and on the 
whole world. ‘

In conclusion you are to say these words three times:

‘Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us 
and on the whole world’.

Jesus said later to Sister Faustina:

‘Say unceasingly this chaplet that I have taught you. Anyone who 
says it will receive great Mercy at the hour of death. Priests 
will recommend it to sinners as the last hope. Even the most 
hardened sinner, if he recites this Chaplet even once, will 
receive grace from My Infinite Mercy. I want the whole world to 
know My Infinite Mercy. I want to give unimaginable graces to 
those who trust in My Mercy… . ‘

‘… . When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I 
will stand between My Father and the dying person not as the just 
judge but as the Merciful Savior’.

Prayers for Difficult Times

God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardship as a pathway to peace;
taking, as Jesus did,
this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it;
trusting that You will make all things right
if I surrender to Your will;
so that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with You forever in the next.  Amen.

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always, though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

“Lord, make me an instrument of your perfect peace and understanding,
Where there is bickering and whining, let me sow reconciliation.
Where there is hurt and sorrow, let me sow compassion.
Where there is ignorance and misunderstanding, let me sow right reason.
Where there is loneliness and boredom, let me sow inspiration.
Where there is selfishness and idle hands, let me sow generosity.
Where there is rebellion and disrespect, let me sow cooperation.

 

O Divine Father, grant that as a parent I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love.

 

For it is in giving that we teach our children how to live;
it is in pardoning their faults that we learn to correct our own;
and it is in dying to self that we raise children for Your eternal glory.”

“Heavenly Lord Jesus, I thank You for my precious children. Give me wisdom Father as I seek in Your Grace to raise them to know the truth of Your word.

Help me never to hold my children too close to myself or develop an attitude of parental selfishness; but help me to teach them to become men and women of God who develop an attitude of responsibility, wisdom  faithfulness to YOU. As they mature and grow older and take up their own positions in the world.

Father, I give my children into YOUR keeping Lord. I love them so deeply, yet I know that Your love for each of my children far surpasses the love that I could have. Keep them I pray under the shade of Your protective wings. May The Holy Spirit lead them and guide them into all truth and may they grow in grace and mature in the faith of Christ Jesus.

I ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus,

AMEN.”

Concluding Pope Francis’ special Urbi et Orbi blessing, he entrusted us all to the Lord, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, so that our faith might not waiver in this time of crisis.

“Dear brothers and sisters, from this place that tells of Peter’s rock-solid faith, I would like this evening to entrust all of you to the Lord, through the intercession of Mary, Health of the People and Star of the stormy Sea. From this colonnade that embraces Rome and the whole world, may God’s blessing come down upon you as a consoling embrace. Lord, may you bless the world, give health to our bodies and comfort our hearts. You ask us not to be afraid. Yet our faith is weak and we are fearful. But you, Lord, will not leave us at the mercy of the storm. Tell us again: ‘Do not be afraid’ (Mt 28:5). And we, together with Peter, ‘cast all our anxieties onto you, for you care about us’ (cf. 1Pet 5:7).”
